Originally by: Zee Zen I was trying to explain EVE to a female friend and I couldn't sufficiently explain why so many guys play as females. It's one aspect that turned her off to the game and people who spend a lot of time playing. Sure, her opinion might change if she played it, but it was frustrating to not have a strong explanation.
In other games where you can see below shoulder level and can dress up in various more or less revealing clothing, it makes sense that players may want to be attracted to the player they're staring at constantly. But EVE relies so heavily on relationships and you pretty much never see yourself, what's the point here?
It's been discussed here before how being a female can result in other players (they probably fall for a lot of scams) being more generous or forgiving. Most players it seems don't think in terms of male or female. Everyone's just a 'he' or an 'it', at least until they tell you otherwise.
I'm certainly glad for the diversity -- ambulation will suck if a large part of the potential diversity of the population were eliminated. And the real females probably appreciate it too, as they are less likely to be harassed.
This is a fantasy game and it's fun playing the part of someone very different from your real life self. You could ask whether you would, for example, PVP someone in real life too. Personally, it would be really cool to web someone's Porsche or pop a Hummer with a Heavy Missile. Or even magically transport someone home (pod them) when they're taking a shortcut through your neighborhood. (Assuming they're consenting, of course, like in a sporting event.)
Every common in-game goal seems common in real life: accumulating wealth, acquiring power, gaining new skills, controlling territory, being a valued member of a team, creating valuable goods from raw materials, etc. This one aspect doesn't seem to have a common parallel, unless the number of men with this fantasy is rather high...
If you don't want to wear women's underwear in real life, why do it here?
Irony alert.
Assuming that all readers are male when making a post about the game being male dominated.
